Three Loaves and One Hallelujah: Ages 6-11

Tour and Baking Workshop for School Groups Accompanying the Exhibition Welcome to Jerusalem

A child's hands rolling some pastry.

After the “Sacred Jerusalem” tour, the children turn to bread and its use in the three monotheistic religions. We bake and taste types of bread that are tied to religious rituals.

On Erev Shabbat, Friday night, many Jews bless and eat challah (plural challot, braided loafs of bread made from white flour). Communion wafers representing the body of Christ are a crucial part of the Christian Eucharist. In Turkey, Muslims eat ramazan pidesi spread with eggs and butter during the fasting month of Ramadan, a tradition that is also widespread in Germany.
