Jewish Life and Traditions

Tour about religion and culture for grade school students

This tour of the Jewish Museum Berlin’s exhibition gives an overview of basic elements of Jewish religion and culture for grades 5 to 13.

Daily Life, Holidays, and the Life Cycle

The Torah contains some 613 commandments and prohibitions. Known as mitzvot (singular: mitzvah), these shape Jewish life in large and small ways from the daily routine to holidays. What are these rules and what are they for? How many Jews eat kosher food? What does kosher mean? Are all male Jews circumcised? Why does the groom break a glass at a Jewish wedding? The answers are as diverse as Judaism itself. The focus of this themed tour can be steered towards everyday life as well as the life cycle from birth to burial.
