Tour: Women in Judaism
How did a Jewish businesswoman and mother of 14 children live in the 17th century?
What did she learn at school and why did she get married?
Why did her relatives pack their cases and wait for the False Messiah?
Glikl bas Juda Leib's (daughter of Juda Leib) unique biography answers all these questions. This extraordinary lady - embedded in the political situation of her time - describes her business transactions, her journeys, her role as a mother, and her religion as an integral part of her daily life. The tour will explore connections between Glikl's personal account (written in Yiddish) and the worlds of the tour participants.
