Viola Roggenkamp: "Die Frau im Turm" (The woman in the tower)
Book Presentation with the Author
The novel interweaves the life stories of two women in Germany for whom Judaism is both stigma and escape. Ten years after reunification, Masia Bleiberg tries to find her father, a Jewish Communist with dreams for mankind. Hoping to find him in Dresden, she accompanies her friend who is shooting a film there about Countess Cosel: Once a mistress of King August II, the aristocrat lived up to her death in exile. In her 50-year confinement, she became a learned woman and found intellectual freedom in Judaism.
