Abraham Sutzkever was among the "Junge-Wilne" group of avant-garde Jewish authors and is seen as one of the last great Yiddish poets. In his account of the Vilnius Ghetto, he describes his experiences there – full of rage and grief, hope and pride. His lyrical work "Gesänge vom Meer des Todes" (Chants from the sea of death) is also now available in German, 65 years after the liberation of the ghetto.
The publisher Egon Ammann will introduce the author, the translator Hubert Witt will read, and Rachel Salamander will recite poems in Yiddish.
