Lily Brett & Johanna AdorjŠn
Read by Adriana Altaras, moderation by Shelly Kupferberg

The search for one's own personal history, for traces of the past in the present, is the theme of the second evening. In Lily Brett's novel "You Gotta Have Balls" (German title: "Chuzpe"), Ruth cannot comprehend that her 87-year-old father is far from settling peacefully into his twilight years. When he begins a relationship with a younger Pole, Zofia, Ruth fears for both her inheritance and her nerves. A novel about fathers and daughters, Polish cuisine, and New York neuroses. Johanna AdorjŠn, feature writer for the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung," tactfully and tenderly reconstructs the story of her grandparents, Hungarian Holocaust survivors. Two people who have grown old together take the joint decision to end their own lives.
