Ulrike Kolb tells the story of a Jewish-German romance that asserts itself time and again against the aftereffects of the past. Tenderly and melancholically, Carla looks back upon her marriage that began as amour fou in Israel but which soon became painfully shrouded in skepticism and doubt. Yoram’s Israeli friends eye the young German critically and his mother, too, is not impressed with her son’s choice. Things are not much different for the young couple in Germany: The frequently and proudly cited "coming to terms with the past" seems to have rolled off the polished surface of reality.
