Hanukkah Market: The Winter Market with a Difference
Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival of the lights, celebrates the cleaning and rededication of the temple in Jerusalem over two millennia ago. The Jewish Museum is celebrating Hanukkah a whole month long with a Hanukkah Market in the Museum’s Glass Courtyard. There are Jewish specialties and Hanukkah wares from all over the world, special events, live concerts, and tours on the Jewish festival to look forward to.
The Hanukkah Market is a market square, a meeting place, and an exhibition all at once. Be it traditional or outlandish, kitsch or art, wooden or ceramic - you will find a variety of original gift ideas from Germany, the USA, and Israel. A café invites you to take a tasty break and a small exhibition about Hanukkah informs about the festival’s rituals and historical background.
When: 28 November to 26 December, daily from midday to 6 pm
(The Market will be closed on 24 December)
Where: Glass Courtyard, ground level
Admission: free
The Lighting of the Hanukkah Menorah
Hanukkah falls from 2 to 9 December this year. On the eve of each of these days, the Hanukkah candle is lit at sunset. We will light the Hanukkah Menorah at the market every day at 4 pm from 1 to 8 December. On Saturday 4 December, the vocal ensemble "Erstes Berliner Oktett" will sing at the lighting. A Chabad-Lubavitch rabbi will light the candle on 5 December.
