Prelude to the Project "Diversity in Schools"

Language deficits of students, high dropout rates - particularly among young people from immigrant families - and new requirements for teachers are catchphrases in the discussion about the role of schools today in immigrant society. The lifeworld, social, cultural and religious diversity of the students is often seen as an obstacle rather than a starting point for the design of individual learning processes. The intercultural opening of schools aims to overcome this deficit perspective by developing solutions that take the school system as a whole into account.
Together with key players from the worlds of school, science, and politics, we shall discuss how the intercultural opening of schools can be advanced.
