SUMMARY:Panel discussion: Is Zionism an Integral Part of Judaism? An Assessment for the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:Panel discussion: Is Zionism an Integral Part of Judaism? An Assessment for the 21st Century \n\nOn September 11, 2012, the American philosopher Judith Butler will receive the renowned Theodor W. Adorno Award of the City of Frankfurt am Main for her work in philosophy. Her theory of performative gender challenges fixed gender roles, forced sexual orientation and racist ideology while promoting a universal code of ethics. As a woman, a Jew, and an intellectual Butler rejects the reduction of Judaism to a nationalist definition of Zionism. A radical pacifist, she is committed to movements that fight - peacefully, albeit with unorthodox strategies - to find political solutions that ensure a basis of equal rights for all people in those lands, for Israelis and Palestinians alike.\n\nThe Jewish Museum Berlin and the Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry invite you to join us for a discussion of these questions with Judith Butler and Micha Brumlik.\n\nModerator: Andreas Öhler\n\n\nWhen: 15 September 2012, 7:30 pm\n\nWhere: Jewish Museum Berlin, Lindenstraße 9-14, 10969 Berlin, Glass Courtyard, ground level\n\nAdmission: 7 euros, reduced 5 euros\n\nThis event is sold out!: \n\nContact: Gesa Struve, Tel: +49 (0)30 259 93 517, Fax: +49 (0)30 259 93 330, g.struve@jmberlin.de\n\nFor further information, see http://www.jmberlin.de/main/EN/02-Events/Events_2012/2012_09_15_butler.php
