This documentary – premiered at the 49th Berlinale – tells the story of the Jewish singer, director, and film star from the Weimar Republic, Kurt Gerron. After his deportation in 1944 to the Theresienstadt ghetto, Gerron founded the cabaret "Karussell" there. The film combines interviews with contemporary witnesses, clips from songs, and scenes from an SS propaganda film made in the ghetto which Gerron had to direct just a few months before he was murdered in Auschwitz.
