Ein Fälscherleben (A Forger’s Life)
Reading and Discussion
15 June 2013
Falsed documents can save lives – Adolfo Kaminsky tells of the 20th century’s political conflicts from the perspective of a master forger.
"Stay awake as long as possible. Beat down the tiredness. The equation is simple – in one hour, I can forge 30 identification papers. If I sleep, 30 people die …"
In 1943, Adolfo Kaminsky began to forge documents for the French Resistance – passports that saved thousands of Jews from deportation and certain death. Even after the war, Kaminsky spent 30 years of his life underground forging papers and identities for the great resistance movements of the 20th century.
