In her film, the director Canan Turan tells the story of her grandmother Kıymet Özdemir, who left Turkey for political reasons in 1972 and immigrated to Berlin-Kreuzberg. As worker and activist, she demonstrated at that time for the rights of migrant workers of Turkish origin, for non-discriminatory education, and against racism in Germany. But at home, she endured a marriage full of suffering. She now lives again in the village where she grew up on the Thracian Mediterranean coast. In a discussion between the generations, Canan Turan shows how such experience of migration shapes not only family histories, but also German history.
