INTRODUCTION 1/15 NEXT OBJECT
Andreas Ruckers (1579–1653) | Antwerpen, 1633 | Musikinstrumentenmuseum Brüssel

The virginal is a type of harpsichord with strings running parallel to the keyboard. The distinctive feature of the "muselar virginal" is that the keyboard is placed right of the center. The lid here bears the inscription "Musica magnorum solamen dulce laborum" (Music is the sweet consolation of great labors).
