Herbert Feuerstein Tells of His Time at “MAD”

He is the maker of the German “MAD” magazine and inventor of the most subversive entertainment program on German television. “Schmidteinander” brought Herbert Feuerstein fame, but his real passion was “MAD” magazine, of which he was chief editor for over 20 years until 1992. Imported from America, “MAD” under Feuerstein’s leadership became Germany’s most successful satirical magazine, influencing whole generations of school students.
Herbert Feuerstein speaks of his experiences with artists and publishers who shaped the legendary style of “MAD” in the USA. Moreover he reflects on what constitutes German satire.

The Big Comics Quiz

Forty questions and great chances for experts and readers of comics with a sound smattering of knowledge. Anyone who knows the color of Superman’s cloak and that Didi Glitz doesn’t care a fig whether her Vodkatini is shaken or stirred should be here. In four rounds, simple and obscure riddles of the comic world are tackled. Themes range from the classics to underground anti-heroes to contemporary film, from Yellow Kid to Bart Simpson. Groups of up to six people may take part, many of which might assemble spontaneously. Drinks will be served at the bar and the moderator will ask questions starting 8pm. Aside from the glory and honor they will bask in, the evening’s winners will also be awarded prizes.
