The Crazy Crooked House

Workshop for School Groups (Ages 6-11) on Libeskind's Architecture

Close up of a girl holding a tinkered object.

In this workshop, children explore Daniel Libeskind’s crooked museum architecture and build their own architectural model.

The children climb steep staircases, walk up inclines, and measure acute angles. Daniel Libeskind’s museum is unlike the buildings we walk through every day. Why is the floor slanted? And why is there a staircase leading to nowhere?

Where

Old Building, ground level, "Meeting Point" in the foyer

Lindenstraße 9–14, 10969 Berlin

With the help of a ruler and a triangle, participants measure distances and spaces and chart a ball’s path across the floor. The tour of the axes of the Libeskind building also demonstrates the effect of light, stairs, and corners on a building and the people inside it.

Then, the students can create a crazy crooked house of their own out of cardboard, paper, fabric, and recycled materials.
