Daughters and Sons of Gastarbeiters

Reading and Discussion

They followed their parents from the villages of Anatolia, southern Europe, and the Balkan to Germany or were born in a working-class district of the Federal Republic. As “foreign laborers”, their fathers and mothers were to stimulate economic recovery in Germany – the “Daughters and Sons of Gastarbeiters”, a group of Berlin-based authors who have come together to document this chapter of German postwar history, look back and trace their parents’ footsteps. They tell their personal stories and thus make their contribution to German commemoration culture.
