The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, with its unique concentration of sculptures, statues, and follies, is the product of the enlightened mindset of Prince Franz of Anhalt-Dessau, a landscape as a reflection of the era’s worldview and an expression of reformist ideas.
Today, the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve links the Garden Realm to the cultural influences of Martin Luther’s Wittenberg and the town of Dessau, home of the Bauhaus. This exposes the historical influences that have shaped the region for centuries.
Past event
In 2000, UNESCO declared the Garden Realm a World Heritage Site. We invite you to explore the cultural landscape along the Elbe with its sprawling park, the castle, and canals with gondolas and absorb the harmonious blend of landscape design, architecture, visual art, and a revolution in intellectual history. We will also take a tour of Dessau and visit Walter Gropius’s Bauhaus buildings.
