"Die Spaziergängerin von Sans-Souci"(The Passerby)

Paris 1980: The Ambassador of Paraguay is shot. While in custody, Max Baumstein tells his wife Lina the facts behind the crime – his father was murdered by Nazi thugs and he himself was taken in by a couple named Wiener. Following the arrest of her husband, Elsa Wiener fled to Paris with the Jewish boy Max and worked in a dance hall. There she met the man who later became the Ambassador of Paraguay, who shamelessly exploited her fears about her husband. Like other CCC films, this German-French co-production employs a framework plot to address the Nazi past. This was Romy Schneider’s last film and she plays a dual role as Elsa Wiener and her likeness Lina Baumstein.

With Romy Schneider, Michel Piccoli, and Helmut Griem. Directed by Jacques Rouffio
