The Ceremony of Resilience is a reflective, artistic, and expressive space initiated by survivors of the 9 October 2019 attack in Halle (Saale) and Wiedersdorf, in close association with Hillel Deutschland e.V. The Ceremony brings together multiple communities that have endured violence in Germany and abroad, to collectively seek a path toward resilience, and to honor the memories of the lives lost to this violence, in particular Jana L. and Kevin S., who were murdered on 9 October 2019. Performances, talks, and messages of solidarity bring the ceremony along its natural arc, from sadness to joy.

In light of current affairs in the world, particularly the war in Ukraine, this year’s Ceremony will address the idea of resilience and the sense of losing home. Through poetry and spoken word, speakers will reflect on what it means to integrate such loss into their identity and to forge a path of return toward a new, rooted sense of self.
The event will be followed by a reception offering space for further discussion.
The Ceremony of Resilience is part of the Festival of Resilience, which is taking place from the 4th to 16th of October at various locations in Berlin and Halle (Saale).
