Isaac and Abul Abbas the White Elephant

A Family Trip to Bagdad in a Textiles Workshop

In this workshop, families with children aged 6 and older design textiles.

Silk, velvet, and cotton were brought to Germany from the East in the Middle Ages. Objects and texts in the exhibition show the fabrics the merchant Isaac traded in at this time, what he exchanged them for, and why he took a white elephant named Abul Abbas to Charlemagne’s court. After a tour of the museum, we use colorful fabrics to design a textile image of Abul Abbas the Elephant.
