How long have Jews lived on the territory that is present-day Germany? This is the question we explore together in the exhibition. The area where the first Jewish communities in northern Central Europe settled is known by the name Ashkenaz. Some sources inform that relations of Jews to their Christian environment were very familiar at that time, while others indicate a great distance. The basis is historical evidence that we will explore together. Visitors are immersed in the medieval city of Worms by way of a medial city map and learn what everyday Jewish life in a Christian environment meant. Medieval manuscripts bear witness both to a newly emerging Ashkenazi culture and to Christian-Jewish cooperation.

Interactions with the exhibition allow room for individual exploration of the subject and space for group discussions.
