Film Showing and Discussion in English as Part of the Film and Reading Series "Between Marrakesh and Mashhad"
Documentary, Egypt 2008, 105 min, Arabic with English subtitles
An "Egyptian salad" is how the filmmaker Nadia Kamel describes her own extended family, which unites different religions and cultures together in love. When she becomes conscious that her little nephew Nabil is growing up in a time in which conflicts between cultures and religions are on the increase, she decides to show him the diversity of their own family.
She plans a trip to Italy, Israel, and Palestine with him to meet the supposed strangers of their own family. The film tells the fascinating story of three Egyptian generations and at the same time provides a portrait of a cosmopolitan Egypt.
Following the film, there will be a discussion with the director in English.
