Shoah & Pin-ups: The NO!artist Boris Lurie
Film Showing and Discussion with the Filmmakers
"Shoah & Pin-ups" tells of the taboos broken by the New York NO!artist Boris Lurie. In his art, he brings together that which may not belong together: gassed corpses and naked bodies, Shoah and pin-ups. It's not perverted art, but a comment on a perverted society, says Lurie, drawing a connecting line from the Holocaust through to the war in Iraq. He would have liked to create pleasant images like those of the Impressionists, but something made that impossible. And that something is what this film probes. A discussion with the filmmakers Reinhild Dettmer-Finke and Matthias Reichelt will follow the film.
