Halakha and Braided Bread – What Goes into the Sabbath Basket?

Guided Tour for Children (in German)

This Tour for Children Aged 5 and Older Provides an Initial Glimpse at Jewish Life and Traditions.

Friday evening marks the start not only of the weekend, but also of Shabbat. Many Jews celebrate this day of rest with a shared meal in the circle of their families. The table is festively set with two candles, wine for grownups, grape juice for children, and two loaves of braided bread. On a tour of the exhibition the children learn what happens to the bread, why a spice box is sniffed on Saturday evening, and what other traditions shape Jewish life and daily routines.
