The Märkisches Museum is currently showing the temporary exhibition Berlin 1937 – Im Schatten von morgen ("In the Shadow of Tomorrow"). The exhibition focusses critically on the day-to-day realities of life in the big city under the Nazi dictatorship.

The exhibition covers several different aspects of life in Berlin during this period and furnishes an utterly unique insight into Berlin and the year 1937.

Its special focus lies with the objects of everyday culture from the City Museum’s collection. Thus, using ca. 50 objects, the exhibition succeeds in telling various stories which demonstrate the "apparent tranquility" of 1937 in Berlin. It is above all the everyday objects from this period that unsettle us as visitors and elicit reflection. We are sincerely looking forward to our tour with curator Gernot Schaulinski.
