Words in the Garden "Istanbul was a fairytale"

Reading with the Author Mario Levi and the Actress Türkiz Talay

Istanbul, the city of a thousand souls, a thousand destinies, a thousand languages ...
The Turkish-Jewish author Mario Levi, himself a child of this city, leads us through winding alleyways into the backyards and small shops of the people who live there. Starting with his own family, he tells of the coexistence of the many races and cultures, of Madame Estrella, who leaves her family to marry a Muslim, of Monsieur Jacques who keeps a large family with his patriarchally run "shop," and of his brother Nesim, whose love of the German culture does not save him from the concentration camp, of Robert, the player and bon vivant, of the cinema-obsessed Tilda, and of young people who withdraw from tradition and emigrate.
