Yofi Means Great!

Introductory Hebrew Course for School Students Aged 10 to 14

On a guided tour of the exhibition, students are introduced to the Hebrew language and alphabet. Where are Hebrew letters found? What does Hebrew sound like? Where is it spoken today? Why was it not used in everyday life for centuries? In this workshop, we playfully teach the basics of the Hebrew language.

Hebrew emerged more than 3,200 years ago. For several centuries it was used only in liturgical contexts. More than 100 years ago Jewish immigrants then revived Hebrew, transforming it into an everyday language once again. They simplified linguistic rules and added modern words. Today Hebrew is the official national language of the state of Israel.
