"Auf den Einzelnen kommt es an" (It's the individual that counts): W. Michael Blumenthal Speaks of his Life’s Work on the "Anniversary Couch"

Press Invitation

Press Release, Wed 12 Oct 2011

First in the series of conversations with artists, contemporary witnesses, and curators during anniversary week

During anniversary week from 24 to 30 October, the "Anniversary Couch" will be a meeting point for all those who would like to learn more about the JMB’s work and personalities – and what is important to them. The series is launched on Tuesday 25 October when museum director W. Michael Blumenthal speaks to the journalist David Dambitsch about his life’s work. For the recently published talking book "Auf den Einzelnen kommt es an" (It's the individual that counts), David Dambitsch conducted a series of interviews with W. Michael Blumenthal for Deutschlandfunk illuminating the different chapters of his life – his escape from Nazi Germany, his experiences in politics and business and in the US State Department under President Kennedy and as Treasury Secretary under President Carter.

Further guests throughout anniversary week are the artists Eldar Farber, Via Lewandowsky, Maziar Moradi, Julian Rosefeldt, and Miguel Rothschild, who will talk to curators of the anniversary exhibition "How German is it?" about their works and their views on Germany. Contemporary witnesses, experts, companions, and employees of the museum will also take their place on the "Anniversary Couch" and talk to each other and to visitors. We cordially invite you to these conversations.
