Originals from the new "Art Vending Machine" at the Jewish Museum Berlin

As of today, visitors to the Jewish Museum Berlin can also take home small works of art: With the help of a "Vending Machine" located in the permanent exhibition the museum will sell artwork in limited editions. The redesigned and remodeled vending machine from the 70s will be continually stocked with original works of art by Jewish artists living in Berlin.

What visitors get once they have inserted four one-euro coins into the machine is left to chance. The artwork is packaged in "surprise bags" and invites the visitor to take a fresh and unbiased approach to the artwork and the project.

The packages come with an explanatory note in which the artists tell the story behind their artwork and offer additional information on their own biography.

Every work of art exists in a limited edition of 50 pieces which are all produced specifically for the "Art Vending Machine", including matted photos, Coca-Cola cans with Hebrew and Arabic lettering, paper Mezuzot with comic strips or booklets with illustrations. A total of 350 objects are on offer in the first series. The artists – all trained at renowned schools of art – were completely free in their choice of material and form of expression.

The artists from the first series are:
Zara Verity Morris (*1983, London, UK)
Alex Martinis Roe (*1982, Melbourne, Australia)
Mascha Danzis (*1972, Leningrad, Soviet Union, today: St. Petersburg, Russia)
Atalya Laufer (*1979, Kibbuz Hazorea, Israel)
Daniel Laufer (*1975, Hanover, Germany)
Andrei Krioukov (*1959, Moscow, Soviet Union, today: Russia)
Alexis Hyman Wolff (*1982, Los Angeles, USA)
