Werner Max Finkelstein emigrates to Sweden with a children's transport in 1939 at the age of fourteen. His mother applies for a Bolivian visa. After adventurous journeys they meet up again in Bolivia in 1941.

Werner Max Finkelstein recalls (translation of the interview):

"Bolivia was the first time I had really encountered the reality of Latin America. I got to know all of the squalor there, the deep-seated suspicion the Indios held against all whites, because for centuries they had only been exploited and stolen from and dispossessed.
