Every refugee who would like to stay in France for longer than two months is obligated to apply to the responsible police authorities for an identification card (carte d´identité) no later than eight days after immigration.
The temporary receipt issued when such an application is submitted (récépissé) amounts to a provisional residency permit. Also coveted is the "carte d´identité travailleur industriel," which is a prerequisite for employment.
