José Casanova:
Secularisation or the Return of Religion?

On the Relationship Between Religion and Secularity in European Societies – Discussion (video recording available, in German)

José Casanova, head of the Berkley Center’s Program on Globalization, Religion and the Secular, will open the W. Michael Blumenthal Lectures. He is a sociologist of religion and is one of the most eminent experts on questions of secularization and the relationship between the state and religious communities. José Casanova argues that religion is in no way losing its importance in modern society and contradicts the assumption that secularization is a prerequisite for open, tolerant societies.
