The Academic Advisory Council of the Jewish Museum Berlin

The Academic Advisory Council of the Jewish Museum Berlin is appointed by the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Museum Berlin, most recently on June 3, 2024. According to its statutes, members of the council are appointed or reappointed every five years. The council advises the Board of Trustees and the director on specialist topics.

Its current members are:

  • Emily D. Bilski – Art historian, independent curator of numerous exhibitions in Europe, the USA and Israel
  • Prof. Dr. Michael Brenner – Historian specializing in Jewish history and Jewish culture, Chair of Jewish History and Culture at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich since 1997, additionally Seymour and Lillian Abensohn Chair for Israel Studies at American University, Washington, D.C., since 2013
  • Prof. Dr. Anja Dauschek – Director of the Altonaer Museum in Hamburg since 2017, Head of the Planning Committee for the Construction of the Stuttgart City Museum from 2007 to 2016
  • Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dan Diner – Professor Emeritus of Modern History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalum and former Director of the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture
  • Dr. Yael Kupferberg – Literary scholar, from Oct 2018 to Sep 2024 in various positions at the Center for Research on Antisemitism, TU Berlin; since October 2025, research associate at the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies
  • Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Christoph Markschies – Protestant theologian and professor of ancient Christianity, president of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 2020
  • Prof. Dr. Daniel Schönpflug – Professor of History at Freie Universität Berlin, Head of Academic Programs at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin since 2015
