A Walk on Provenance Research Day (in German)

On the 8th International Day of Provenance Research, nine Berlin cultural institutions are joining forces to go on a #SPURENSUCHE (search for traces). The Jewish Museum Berlin (JMB) is one of them! The program includes four guided walks through the capital, providing insight into the everyday work of provenance researchers. At the same time, they draw attention to the still visible traces of colonial heritage and Nazi rule in today’s Berlin cityscape, as well as to the fates of persecuted people.
The first walk starts at 10 a.m. at the Topography of Terror Documentation Center, where you will learn why the Secret State Police and the SS Security Service stole millions of books and what they did with them. Afterwards, the tour continues to the JMB library, where provenance researcher Elisabeth Weber (JMB) uses the example of the library of collector Eli Stern, acquired by the museum in 1987, to explain the path these books took after the war.
The Jewish Museum Berlin (JMB), the Academy of Arts, the German Historical Museum, the Ethnological Museum – Berlin State Museums, the Berlin City Museum Foundation, the Berlin State Library – Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Topography of Terror Foundation, the Central Archive of the Berlin State Museums, and the Berlin Central and Regional Library are participating in the #SPURENSUCHE project.
