Netiquette

On this page, you will find our netiquette guidelines for social media and digital events. With these guidelines, we aim to ensure respectful interaction in the digital space.

Netiquette for Social Media

We welcome your views and feedback – whether positive or critical – in the comment sections of our social media channels. The important thing is to ensure a respectful, responsible and friendly tone at all times. To ensure that everyone feels welcome in this space, we kindly request that you observe the following rules:

Discrimination, defamation, insults, threats or libel are not permitted, whether in the context of the comment section or elsewhere. This also applies to political beliefs, religious views, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, ethnic background, disability, financial circumstances and age. Antisemitic, racist, sexist or other discriminatory language will not be tolerated, nor will comments that violate applicable laws. Criminal content such as hate speech or incitement to violence will be reported to the authorities immediately.

We do not permit electioneering or party-political campaigning, extremist ideology, hate speech, misinformation, pornography or obscene content, infringements of third-party rights, links to websites that glorify violence or contain criminal content, comments unrelated to the original post, the publication of forum/blog posts, private correspondence or personal data (addresses, email addresses or telephone numbers), advertising or other commercial content.

The editors of the JMB social media team moderate the comments in accordance with the rules of netiquette. In case of non-compliance, we reserve the right to delete the relevant posts (if necessary, without explanation), and to block accounts in case of repeated violations. These rules also apply to direct messages sent to our institution. If you wish to report a comment or challenge a moderation decision, you can contact us via our website or our social media channels.

Netiquette four our digital events

Time and again, opinions are radicalized and conflicts are fueled in virtual spaces. The anonymity of communication makes it easy to forget that verbal or written attacks can be hurtful to those affected. The Jewish Museum Berlin strives to be a discrimination-free space. Please adhere to the following principles:

  • Depending on the format, you can participate with questions and discussion contributions in writing or orally.
  • Written contributions will be reviewed, approved, and presented by a moderator.
  • Please keep your comments short and concise so that there is room for as many audience contributions as possible.
  • Please register with your real name.
  • Please express yourself respectfully and responsibly.
  • Anti-Semitic, racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Speakers and participants should be treated as individuals with personal opinions, not primarily as representatives of a national, ethnic, religious, or cultural group.
  • Links to websites that glorify violence or are relevant under criminal law will be deleted immediately.
  • In the event of repeated violations of netiquette, we reserve the right to exclude you from the event.

Recording (including screenshots) and distributing the event or parts thereof, including the materials used, is not permitted. We record the event.

Das Aufzeichnen (auch durch Screenshots) und Verbreiten der Veranstaltung oder Teilen davon, einschließlich der verwendeten Materialien, ist unzulässig. We will record the event and make it available online afterwards. For more details, please refer to our privacy policy.
