Cultural Summer

Every year, the Jewish Museum Berlin (JMB) organizes a “Cultural Summer.” Spread over several months, this varied program of events has grown from being an insider’s tip into a key date in Berlin’s cultural calendar. For over twenty years, we have invited visitors young and old to selected events at the museum and in our extensive grounds. See the best the JMB has to offer with a grand Summer Party, readings, concerts, discussions, our Jazz in the Garden sessions – always a favorite with the public – and the Long Night of Museums event.

This year’s Cultural Summer opens with a Berlin premiere: The Boychiks from YidLife Crisis, the world’s first ever Yiddish sitcom, present an evening of comedy, film and music, during which they will examine – and poke a little fun at – the German capital with their special brand of chutzpah. Fans of DEFA productions will get their money’s worth at this film marathon as part of the Jewish Film Festival Berlin | Brandenburg (JFBB): The JMB will screen the four-part television film Die Bilder des Zeugen Schattmann (The Pictures of the Witness Schattmann) in sequence. As part of this event, author Lisa Schoß will present her book Von verschiedenen Standpunkten. Die Darstellung jüdischer Erfahrung im Film der DDR (From Different Perspectives. The Representation of Jewish Experience in the Cinema of the GDR), and will speak on the topic with Knut Elstermann. On our stage in the Museum Garden, international musicians promise four Sundays of special concert experiences at the “Jazz in the Garden” event. And the grand, family-friendly summer party, which will include a children’s program, live music, and culinary specialties, will be a perfect opportunity to get to know the Jewish Museum Berlin in all its variety. The Cultural Summer takes the museum program (almost always!) out into the gardens for a double dose of culture and sunshine.

The FRIENDS OF THE JMB will of course be at all events and look forward to hearing interesting stories and meeting new people! www.jmberlin.de/freunde

Tip:

To make your visit to our gardens really special, the museum café puts together a special picnic basket for the Jazz Matinées and Summer Party. For further information or to order a basket, just email info@esskultur-berlin.de.
