In the summer of 1882, Felicie and Carl Bernstein brought significant works of French Impressionism to Berlin – including paintings by Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, and Alfred Sisley. As Jewish intellectuals with roots in the Russian Empire, they hosted a renowned salon in the Tiergarten district that brought together the city’s most important cultural figures.

Artists such as Max Liebermann and Max Klinger were regular guests and drew inspiration from the Bernsteins’ collection.

Visitors to the Jewish Museum look at paintings.
