28 Medals and Decorations

Object Day Düsseldorf: Lev Agranovich

“Show us your story!” – Beginning in 2017, the Jewish participants in the Object Days project have answered this invitation by recounting their migration stories.

I have 28 medals and decorations from the Second World War. You can see them all on my jacket in the photo. They call me a “Hero of the Soviet Union.” I studied at the Jewish Agricultural College in Chobotarka, Crimea, until 1939, and was drafted into the army the same year. I served for a total of 32 years and worked my way up from a simple soldier to a colonel. I later lived in Orel, 400 kilometers southwest of Moscow. Until recently, I had an apartment near Moscow. I immigrated to Germany in 1991 because of my daughter. She’s no longer alive, but my son and grandson live in Germany. My granddaughter lives in London.
