Judaism and Islam

Guided Tour with Discussion

Starting from the Torah as the central source of Judaism, this event introduces the foundations of Jewish traditions and rituals that continue to shape religious life today. Along the way, participants encounter stories, figures, and commandments that also appear in the Qur’an and the Christian Bible.

The tour highlights how Judaism and Islam are interconnected: while the two monotheistic religions share many similarities, they also differ in important ways. Using dietary laws as an example, it explores ritual purity as well as the concepts of kosher and halal, alongside personal perspectives on how these rules are lived in everyday life.

Another focus is the situation of religious minorities in Germany. While Jews were long the only religious minority, Muslims are now the largest in a predominantly Christian society. The tour addresses questions of belonging, adaptation, and distinction, as well as experiences of discrimination.

It also looks at Jewish–Muslim relations, shaped both by shared historical roots and by the impact of the Middle East conflict, while highlighting new efforts to strengthen dialogue between the two religions.

The tour invites respectful discussion. For groups from grade 10 onwards and adults, the situation of religious minorities in Germany is explored in greater depth.
