Religion and Ritual with a focus on the High Holidays – 14 & 21 Sep 2025
Rosh ha-Shanah is the Jewish New Year. According to oral tradition, it marks the day on which the creation of the world was completed; translated, the words mean “head of the year”. On Yom Kippur, nine days after Rosh ha-Shanah, the period of remembrance and repentance that opened the Jewish New Year ends. On this day, God enters his judgment on people in the “Book of Life”, which is closed and sealed after this probation. Objects and everyday items tell of Jewish life on the High Holidays and give an insight into the diversity within Judaism.

Defiance: Jewish Women and Design in the Modern Era – 28 Sep 2025
The exhibition Defiance: Jewish Women and Design in the Modern Era reveals the important role that Jewish women designers played in German society’s process of emancipation and modernization in the early twentieth century—as women, as Jews, and as artists. Featuring around three hundred exhibits by more than fifty designers, this is the world’s first collective exhibition on the theme. It brings together pioneering women who battled social marginalization to attain prominent positions in their own domains—until the Nazi regime destroyed their careers and lives.
