October 2014 saw the opening of the exhibition Snip it! Stances on Ritual Circumcision, which was solely about men. In contrast, the eleventh edition of the JMB Journal presents diverse aspects of the theme of “women.” Twelve essays, reports, interviews, and collages focus on women in a wide variety of ways.
For example, Micha Brumlik, a writer and senior advisor at the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Jewish Studies, writes about learned women in Judaism. The reporter Inge Günther journeys to visit women’s peace groups in Israel, while the academic Verena Schneider examines sexual violence in wars and crises. And in A Blessing and a Nag, journalist Olga Mannheim takes an ironic look at the figure of the Jewish woman.
Featuring articles by Micha Brumlik, Inge Günther, Verena Schneider, Amos Oz & Fania Oz-Salzberger, Olga Mannheimer, Rafiqa Younes, Iris Blochel-Dittrich, Sabine Haack & Marie Warburg, Mirjam Bitter, Ljudmila Belkin, and Daniela Schmid along with information about the exhibitions Snip it!
