People with Dementia Look at Family Portraits from our Family Collection

Guided tour (in German)

Black and white photo of a curly woman on the beach lying on her belly in the sand with a foot stretched out into the sky.

Ilse Winter (1912-1999) on the beach; Jewish Museum Berlin, gift of Gabriel Heim

Once a month, we invite people with dementia and an accompanying person for a special visit to the museum to look at selected photographs from our family collection together. In the pictures we encounter Jewish families with whom we experience first days at school, wedding celebrations, and seaside holidays. Objects to feel and musical accents create a sensual approach, bringing the photographs to life. On arrival, our special guests are welcomed with coffee with cookies – the relaxed atmosphere creates space for their own memories and stories to flow.
