How Can Political Leaders and Society Support Intercultural Awareness at Schools?

Report on a Panel Discussion

Over the past few decades, schools have expanded their educational repertoire to include intercultural and anti-discriminatory approaches. However, the treatment of diversity and inequality still appears to involve a great deal of experimentation. The Jewish Museum Berlin, which has worked closely with schools for years, used this panel discussion to discuss the results, unresolved questions, and conflict-laden aspects of its educational work. It also focused on prospects for political action.

The panel discussion was led by Marburg-based author and moderator Dr. Nkechi Madubuko. The participants included:

  • Özcan Mutlu, Member of the Bundestag for the Green Party, Berlin
  • Evelin Lubig-Fohsel, member of the Committee for Migration, Diversity, and Anti-Discrimination of the German Teachers’ Union, Berlin
  • André Barth, Ernst Schering School, Berlin
  • Dr. Diana Dressel, head of the Education Department of the Jewish Museum Berlin
