Digitization of All Publications of the Soncino Society of Friends of the Jewish Book

Founded in Berlin in 1924, the Soncino Society of Friends of the Jewish Book was the first and only society of Jewish book lovers in Germany. Until it was dissolved in 1937, it published around eighty books from all fields of Jewish history and culture as well as approximately twenty magazines and society newsletters.

Our library is the only institution in the world that owns a complete set of Soncino Society publications. In addition, our archives contain a large collection of documents that, like the publications, were acquired from the estate of Herrmann Meyer, the society’s founder.
In the course of the project we digitized these collections and cataloged the related archival documents. In addition, we will expand the library database to make the digital copies available online (show publications in our OPAC).
We received support for the project from the Service Center for Digitization Berlin (digiS) as part of its funding program to digitize cultural heritage objects from Berlin.
