Ruth (1984), Film from the Artur Brauner Collection
A Film from the Artur Brauner Collection at Our Library
Ruth is 13 years old when the Germans invade Poland in 1939. The persecution of Jews follows immediately, but Ruth manages to escape. Left completely to her own devices, she goes first to her aunt at the Warsaw Ghetto, flees again, finds help, and experiences betrayal. Deadly peril and hunger are her constant companions.
The script is based on material by Artur Brauner in which he processes his own experience and that of his wife Maria. Sharon Brauner, the producer's niece, plays the girl whom the German occupying forces chase all the way across Poland.
With Sharon Brauner, Günter Lamprecht, and Mathieu Carrière. Directed by Jerzy Hoffman.
