Shoah/Holocaust

These terms refer to the mass murder of approximately six million Jews across Europe during the Nazi regime. This crime was unprecedented in history. The two most common terms for it come from the Bible. The word Holocaust means “burnt offering” in Greek, and Shoah means “catastrophe” or “disaster” in Hebrew.
