Opportunities and Limits of the Tolerance of Ambiguity
Part of the Lecture Series Where Does the Truth Lie? On the Tolerance of Ambiguity (in German)
Prof. Hans-Georg Soeffner (University of Bonn) shows that the demand for tolerance of ambiguity played a fundamental role in social cohesion as early as the European Enlightenment. However, the contextual background to this demand is now utterly changed: We live in a heterogeneous society whose structures are characterized by religious, national, ethnic, political and economic pluralism. Soeffner highlights the opportunities and limitations presented by tolerance of ambiguity.
